To ensure a smooth transition into school, new students to our school and Kindergarten children are paired up or buddied with a child from the Year 6 class.
The younger children meet their buddies during the Kindergarten orientation process known as our “Starfish program” which commences during November. The Kindergarten transition process allows the teachers to select the appropriate match for kindergarten and year 5 buddies based on observations. This allows for the new comers to develop a connection with their buddy prior to starting school.
During the first term of the school year, the Kindergarten children are assisted by their Year 6 buddy to establish routines around the school, social orientation and to act as a general hand to the teacher. The Year 6 children are encouraged to act as a friend to their Kindergarten buddy and to help them establish their place within the school.
